1. Who I am
Martinborough Celebrant also known as Lisa Cornelissen (“I”, “me”, “my”) offers wedding and funeral ceremonies as well as M.C. services in New Zealand. This policy explains how I collect, use, store and share personal information when you visit martinboroughcelebrant.co.nz or otherwise get in touch with me, in line with the Privacy Act 2020.
This policy applies to this website only. It doesn’t cover other websites I may link to, or services provided by other suppliers (photographers, venues, celebrants other than myself) that couples engage separately.
2. What personal information I collect
Right now this site is informational — there’s no booking form, payment system or newsletter sign-up on it. What I do collect:
- Contact details you give me directly — for example if you email or message me with an enquiry (name, email address, phone number, wedding details, preferences).
- Technical and usage information collected automatically when you browse the site — such as IP address, device/browser type, pages viewed and how you found me — via Google Analytics and the Meta (Facebook/Instagram) Pixel.
- Photos, video or stories that couples choose to share with me for marketing, only with their specific consent (see section 7).
If I add online bookings, payments or a mailing list to the site in future, I’ll update this policy before those features go live.
3. How I collect it
Most personal information comes directly from you — for example, when you email me about your wedding. Some technical information is collected indirectly, through cookies and similar technology operated by third parties (Google and Meta) when you browse the site — see section 5 for what that involves.
4. Why I collect and use it
I use personal information to:
- respond to your enquiry and help plan your ceremony;
- understand how people use my website, so I can improve it;
- show my advertising to people likely to be interested in similar services (via Meta); and
- with your consent, share real wedding stories and photos in my marketing.
I only use personal information for the purpose I collected it for, or a closely related purpose, unless you agree otherwise or the law requires it.
5. Cookies, Google Analytics and the Meta Pixel
My website uses cookies and similar technologies from two third-party providers:
- Google Analytics — collects information about how visitors use my site (pages viewed, time on site, general location, device type). This data is processed by Google and may be stored on servers outside New Zealand, including in the United States. You can opt out using Google’s Analytics opt-out browser add-on, or by adjusting your cookie preferences.
- Meta Pixel — helps me understand and measure the ads I run on Facebook and Instagram, and may link your visit to a Facebook or Instagram account if you’re logged in. This data is processed by Meta and may be stored overseas. You can manage this through your Meta ad preferences, or by declining non-essential cookies.
I’m telling you about these tools specifically because some of the information they collect about you comes to me indirectly, through Google and Meta, rather than directly from you.
6. Who I share information with, including overseas
I don’t sell personal information. I may share it with:
- my website host, [1st Domains — New Zealand-based];
- Google (Analytics) and Meta (Pixel), as described above — both store data overseas, mainly in the United States;
- professional advisers (such as my accountant or lawyer), where reasonably necessary; and
- anyone else where required or authorised by law.
Where personal information is held overseas, privacy and data protection standards may differ from New Zealand’s. I take reasonable steps to only use well-known providers with their own privacy safeguards, but I can’t guarantee an overseas provider will handle information exactly as New Zealand law would require.
7. Photos and stories from real weddings
I’d love to occasionally share real ceremonies — photos, video, or the couple’s story — on my website, social media or in other marketing. I only do this with your specific, separate consent, which I’ll ask for directly. You can decline, limit how I use it (e.g. website only, not social media), or ask me to take something down later by contacting me.
Photos or video taken by a photographer or videographer the couple hires separately are covered by that supplier’s own terms, not this policy.
8. Keeping your information safe
I store personal information securely — enquiry emails and planning notes are kept on password-protected devices and accounts, and my website is hosted with reasonable security measures in place. Only I can access it. I take reasonable steps to protect personal information against loss, unauthorised access, use, modification or disclosure.
9. How long I keep it
I keep enquiry and wedding-planning information only as long as I reasonably need it for the purpose it was collected, or as required by law — for example, financial and business records are generally kept for at least seven years under New Zealand tax law. After that, I securely delete or anonymise it.
10. Your rights — access and correction
Under the Privacy Act 2020 you have the right to ask me what personal information I hold about you, and to ask me to correct it if it’s wrong. To do this, contact me using the details in section 14. I’ll respond as soon as reasonably practicable (usually within 20 working days), may need to verify your identity first, and in limited circumstances allowed by the Act may need to withhold some information — if so, I’ll explain why.
11. If you’re contacting me from overseas
Many couples who reach out to me are planning an elopement to New Zealand from overseas. This policy is written to meet the requirements of New Zealand’s Privacy Act 2020. If you’re based somewhere with its own privacy laws — for example the UK or EU (GDPR) or Australia — those laws may give you additional rights. I’m happy to help with a request under your local law, but this policy doesn’t claim full compliance with any privacy regime other than New Zealand’s.
12. Children’s privacy
My services and this website are aimed at adults planning a wedding. I don’t knowingly collect personal information from children.
13. Changes to this policy
I may update this policy from time to time — for example, if I add new features like online booking or a mailing list. The current version will always be posted on this page, with the “Last updated” date above.
14. Concerns or complaints
If you’re unhappy with how I’ve handled your personal information, please contact me first (details below) — I’d like the chance to put things right. If you’re not satisfied with my response, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner:
- Phone: 0800 803 909
